Gohar Alleges Bid To Pit Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Against Key Institution

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that party founder Imran Khan authorized Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas to hold talks. Speaking to the media outside the Parliament House on Sunday, Barrister Gohar said discussions were held on the situation following the imposition of governor's rule and emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said there was no bitterness or tension in the discussions, adding that the matter should be resolved once and for all while calling for strengthening Parliament. Barrister Gohar alleged that a group was trying to create a rift between PTI and a major state institution, while also acknowledging the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army.

Referring to the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PTI chairman said that targeting the chief minister of a smaller province would not improve the situation. He said the party's long march should conclude, after which meetings with Bushra Bibi should be allowed and the sisters of the PTI founder should be released.

In a conversation with a private TV channel, Barrister Gohar strongly denied reports that any meeting had been held to discuss sidelining the committees, clarifying that the core committee, political committee, and parliamentary party were distinct bodies within the party. He reiterated that all party decisions continued to be made by the core committee and political committee, with proposals presented before the parliamentary party for input.

Meanwhile, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram decried the alleged use of state machinery to intimidate political opponents. He warned that the continued disregard for constitutional safeguards, judicial due process, and the sanctity of private homes set an alarming precedent.

In a statement, he noted that the PTI founder had spent 1,177 days in detention at Adiala Jail, including 356 days in solitary confinement, while his spouse had remained behind bars for more than 911 days. Waqas demanded that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be granted all legal, fundamental, and constitutionally guaranteed rights, including regular meetings with family, lawyers, and party leadership, alongside proper medical care under the supervision of Imran Khan's personal physician.
