Gohar Rejects Rumours of Ousting Achakzai as Opposition Leader

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Monday categorically denied reports that party legislators were planning to replace Mehmood Khan Achakzai. Speaking to the media, he stated, "Achakzai was appointed leader of the opposition by the PTI founder and will remain in his position as long as he retains the founder's confidence." He reiterated that the party founder had granted Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas the mandate to lead negotiations.

The clarification comes amidst growing internal friction within the party ranks regarding strategic decision-making. Barrister Gohar emphasized that the party leadership remains united under the vision of the founder, and any speculation regarding a change in the opposition leadership is merely an attempt to create rifts within the PTI.

He noted that the current political climate requires absolute cohesion. Meanwhile, disgruntled PTI MNA Sher Afzal Marwat claimed that neither he nor other party members were consulted regarding Achakzai's appointment.

In a statement, Marwat remarked, "If you accord someone respect, you should not subsequently humiliate them," adding that removing Achakzai would be disrespectful. His comments have sparked a fresh debate on the internal democratic processes of the party.

Marwat further alleged that some individuals had advised the PTI founder against appointing an opposition leader, fearing the emergence of a rival power center. He argued that the party's decision-making process has become centralized, which he believes is detrimental to the long-term health of the organization.

He suggested that the party needs to broaden its consultative base to include more voices from the grassroots level. The MNA warned that unless the party allows new leadership to emerge, it will remain stagnant.

He noted that the ongoing crackdown has forced many members into hiding, making it difficult for the party to maintain a consistent political narrative. Marwat's public criticism highlights the challenges the PTI faces while operating under immense legal and political pressure.

Political analysts suggest that the tension between senior party members and the leadership reflects the broader struggle of the PTI to maintain its organizational structure while its top leadership remains incarcerated. The role of the opposition leader is seen as a critical position for the party to maintain its presence in the National Assembly.

Despite the internal dissent, Barrister Gohar maintained that the party's primary focus remains on the release of its founder and the restoration of democratic norms in the country. He urged party members to refrain from making public statements that could be exploited by political opponents.

The PTI leadership is expected to hold further meetings to address the concerns raised by various members. The party aims to present a unified front in the upcoming parliamentary sessions to challenge the government's policies effectively.

As the situation develops, the party's ability to manage internal disagreements will be a key indicator of its resilience. The leadership remains confident that the current challenges will be overcome through dialogue and adherence to the founder's directives.

Ultimately, the stability of the opposition in the National Assembly depends on the party's ability to reconcile its internal differences while continuing its struggle against the current political establishment.
