Gold prices fell significantly by Rs3,600 per tola in the local market on Tuesday, following a notable downward trend observed in the international bullion market. Market insiders and traders noted that the correction in domestic rates was an immediate reflection of global economic indicators and currency fluctuations impacting precious metals.
According to the official figures released by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association, the benchmark rate for 24-karat gold settled at Rs435,436 per tola after absorbing the day's losses. This downward adjustment brought relief to prospective buyers while signaling a cautious approach among investors.
In tandem with the tola rate, the price of 10-gram gold also registered a substantial decline. Market data indicated a drop of Rs3,086, bringing the new trading price down to Rs373,316 per 10 grams across major trading centers in the country.
On the international front, spot gold rates experienced a downward pressure, decreasing by $36 to settle at $4,358 per ounce. Analysts attribute this international dip to shifting investor sentiments, strengthening currency indices, and profit-taking by large-scale institutional traders globally.
Industry experts explain that domestic gold prices in Pakistan are closely tied to international trends. Prices in the local market are adjusted with a standard premium of $20 against international rates to account for import logistics, insurance, and local distribution expenses.
Despite the notable volatility and downward correction observed in gold, the local silver market presented a picture of complete stability. Traders reported that silver rates remained entirely unchanged throughout the trading session.
Specifically, the price of silver stayed steady at Rs6,234 per tola. Similarly, the retail and wholesale price of 10-gram silver remained anchored without any variation, closing firmly at the previous level of Rs5,344.
Market analysts monitoring the bullion sector suggest that future price trajectories will depend heavily on upcoming international economic data, inflation reports, and geopolitical developments that traditionally influence safe-haven assets. Jewellery shop owners and retail associations across urban centres reported moderate customer footfall following the price announcement.
Many consumers are reportedly watching the market closely to determine whether the current dip is temporary or part of a sustained correction. As economic authorities and financial observers keep a close eye on currency exchange rates and global commodity exchanges, the domestic bullion sector remains reactive to international shifts, balancing local demand with global market realities.
