Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong met former Punjab Chief Minister and Member of National Assembly (MNA) Hamza Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House on Thursday, with the two sides discussing bilateral relations and ways to strengthen economic and strategic cooperation.
According to a statement, both discussed Pakistan-China relations, the regional situation, and opportunities to further strengthen economic and strategic ties between the two countries. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader congratulated China on its 75th National Day and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the One-China policy.
He also appreciated China's longstanding friendship and continued support for Pakistan. The two sides discussed ways to promote bilateral trade and investment, particularly through the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The discussion highlighted the importance of the CPEC projects, with both sides emphasizing the need for their timely completion to boost regional connectivity and economic growth. The leaders noted that the corridor remains a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Furthermore, the meeting explored avenues for increasing the volume of bilateral trade. Both parties agreed that the CPFTA provides a robust framework for businesses to expand their footprint in both markets, fostering a mutually beneficial economic environment.
On the occasion, the Chinese envoy appreciated Hamza Shehbaz's efforts to further strengthen Pakistan-China relations. He remarked that the iron-clad friendship between the two nations continues to serve as a pillar of stability in the region.
Hamza Shehbaz expressed his gratitude for China's consistent support during Pakistan's economic challenges. He emphasized that the leadership of both countries is committed to taking this partnership to new heights.
