Independent Group Takes Clear Lead In SCBA Polls

The Independent Group has established a clear lead over the Professional Group in the annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for 2026-27. According to unofficial and provisional results from 10 of the 13 polling stations established across the country, Independent Group presidential candidate Syed Amjad Shah was leading with 1,322 votes, while his rival, Professional Group candidate Sardar Aman Khan, had received 791 votes.

Vote counting was still underway at the time of reporting across various major legal centers to determine the final composition of the incoming executive body. The SCBA has a total of 4,630 registered voters, with 13 polling stations established nationwide to facilitate smooth and accessible voting for members of the legal fraternity.

Vote counting continued at the Karachi and Quetta polling stations, and final and official results will be announced by the election commission later once all returns are fully compiled. At the Islamabad principal seat, out of a total of 864 registered voters, Syed Amjad Shah secured 355 votes, while Sardar Aman Khan received 264 votes, reflecting a strong local mandate.

For the secretary seat in Islamabad, Independent Group candidate Muhammad Arif Awan secured 305 votes, while his rival, Mian Irfan Ikram, received 288 votes, marking a tight contest. Senior members of the legal community have actively participated in the polling process, highlighting the democratic traditions upheld within the supreme constitutional and professional body of lawyers.

Election observers noted that the turnout remained encouraging throughout the day as lawyers cast their ballots to elect leadership that will represent their professional interests for the coming term. Further updates regarding the remaining polling stations and the consolidated final results are expected to be released by the election committee shortly as tabulation reaches its concluding stages.
