Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi took the oath as the Acting Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) on Monday. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the premises of the Federal Constitutional Court, marking a significant transition in the court's administrative leadership.
Justice Aamer Farooq administered the oath to Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi during the formal ceremony. The event was attended by several honorable judges of the court, prominent representatives of the legal fraternity, senior lawyers, and various court officials who gathered to witness the proceedings.
Justice Rizvi has assumed this position due to the temporary absence of Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan. The Chief Justice is currently on an official working visit to Azerbaijan, which is scheduled from October 19 to October 24, 2026.
During his visit to Azerbaijan, Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan is representing the Pakistani judiciary at a high-level meeting of the TRK-AY organization. The Federal Constitutional Court is participating in this international forum in the capacity of an observer.
The appointment of an acting Chief Justice ensures the continuity of judicial operations and administrative functions within the Federal Constitutional Court while the head of the institution is engaged in international diplomatic and judicial commitments. Legal experts have noted that such transitions are part of the standard operating procedures of the higher judiciary to ensure that the court's mandate remains uninterrupted.
The Federal Constitutional Court continues to function under the guidance of the acting Chief Justice during this period. The ceremony concluded with prayers for the success of the judiciary and the strengthening of the rule of law in the country.
Justice Rizvi is expected to oversee the court's administrative and judicial matters until the return of Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan. The participation of the Federal Constitutional Court in the TRK-AY meeting is seen as a positive step toward fostering international cooperation and judicial exchange between Pakistan and other member nations.
As the court continues its proceedings, the legal community remains focused on the upcoming constitutional matters scheduled for hearing in the following weeks. The Federal Constitutional Court remains committed to its constitutional obligations, ensuring that the judicial process remains transparent and efficient for all citizens of Pakistan.
