New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is recovering after being hospitalised with what he described as an "unexpected and unusual medical emergency" involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms. In a statement posted on social media on Friday, November 6, the 24-year-old said the cause of his condition "remains unknown and unexplainable," though extensive medical testing has produced "positive and reassuring" results.
Henderson revealed the symptoms have affected his strength, coordination, and some physical functions, and said he is working closely with specialists and physical therapists on his recovery. "I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health.
My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities." Head coach Vrabel confirmed that Henderson will not play in Sunday's game between the Patriots and Green Bay Packers, but was unwilling to set a timeframe in which the player might be back on the field.
"We'll care for him, listen to him, and do whatever we can to get him healthy," Vrabel said. The head coach also mentioned that Henderson is a well-respected person inside the club and that even his wife, Kenzie, is being supported during this difficult time.
The organization has requested privacy for the family as they navigate these medical challenges. Henderson, who was a second-round selection of the Patriots from Ohio State University in 2025, has run for 203 yards on 52 attempts and scored once in six games of the current season.
Last week, Henderson did not play due to illness, having not practised since October. In the previous season, as a rookie, Henderson led the team in rushing statistics by accumulating 911 yards and scoring nine times in 21 games, including playoffs, in which New England reached the Super Bowl.
The medical staff continues to monitor his progress closely. While the neurological symptoms were sudden, doctors are optimistic about his long-term prognosis given the initial test results.
Fans and teammates have flooded social media with messages of support for the young athlete. The Patriots organization has stated they will provide further updates only when there is significant news regarding his status.
For now, the focus remains entirely on his recovery. The team is preparing for the upcoming match without their star running back, adjusting their offensive strategy accordingly.
The NFL community remains hopeful for a swift recovery for Henderson, who has quickly become a key figure for the New England franchise since his debut last year.
