Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Calls for Political Dialogue, National Reconciliation

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Parliamentarians Secretary General Syed Nayyer Hussain Bukhari has asked all political stakeholders to abandon confrontation and pursue dialogue and national reconciliation, saying Pakistan needs unity and a joint strategy to address its political and security challenges. "The national interest must remain the foremost priority, and all stakeholders should abandon political confrontation and adopt the path of negotiations and political dialogue," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Bukhari said the political vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari centred on a strong state, stable democracy and a secure Pakistan, adding that political issues could only be resolved through dialogue, democratic processes and national consensus. He said the PPP believed in national reconciliation and democratic stability despite political differences, stressing that national security and protection of the democratic mandate were interlinked.

Describing terrorism as a red line for the PPP, Bukhari said there could be no compromise on national security. He paid tribute to civilians and security personnel who had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism and urged all political forces to unite against the menace.

Referring to the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said restoring peace, ensuring public security and providing relief from terrorism to the people of the province should be a foremost national priority. He attributed the current security challenges to decisions taken by the previous government to release terrorists, saying a coordinated national strategy was essential to eliminate terrorism.

On imposing governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bukhari said the PPP had consistently favoured democratic traditions and political reconciliation. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his team had opted for negotiations on the PPP's advice, describing the development as a positive step towards resolving political differences through mutual understanding.

He maintained that governor's rule would no longer be necessary if political stakeholders reached a national consensus, urging all parties to place the country's interests above political considerations. Bukhari reaffirmed that the PPP, under Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's leadership, would continue to support political reconciliation, democratic stability, dialogue and a united struggle against terrorism.
