Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Monday rejected party leader Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif's claims, saying the party had made every possible effort to secure a meeting with incarcerated founder Imran Khan. Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Gohar termed as "baseless" Saif's assertion that PTI leaders had failed to meet Imran despite being offered an opportunity to do so.
"We made every possible effort to meet the PTI founder through the courts and negotiations, but despite all our efforts, we were not allowed even a single meeting," he said. Gohar added that access to Imran had also been one of the party's core conditions during the negotiation process.
He rejected the assertions made by Saif during his interview, saying: "All of Barrister Saif's claims are false. I reject them."
Separately, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja linked any party decision on the proposed constitutional amendments to a meeting with Imran. Raja also expressed his inability to exercise full control over PTI's official social media platforms.
Moreover, the party today dismissed reports of internal divisions, affirming that the entire organization remains united behind its founder, his ideology, and mission. In a formal statement issued after a meeting of its political committee, PTI stated that there were no groupings or factions within its ranks, and that its leaders and workers would continue their struggle toward shared objectives.
The committee also discussed the country's prevailing political situation, inflation, and law and order. The political committee demanded the immediate release of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, provincial assembly speaker, and other detained parliamentarians, describing their detention as entirely illegal.
PTI asserted that keeping elected representatives in custody was a direct affront to democratic values and the public mandate. Expressing serious concern over reports that Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, had been shifted to a hospital without taking their families into confidence, the committee demanded the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court's orders regarding the PTI founder's medical treatment.
They also called for regular health updates to be provided to his family. Furthermore, the committee urged that Imran's family be granted regular visitation rights, while appropriate medical facilities and family meetings should also be ensured for Bushra Bibi.
PTI strongly condemned the arrest of Imran's sisters and their mistreatment in custody, demanding their immediate release and permission to meet the former prime minister. The committee raised alarms over the arbitrary arrests of MNA Adil Bazai and other party workers, demanding the immediate release of all individuals detained under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
It emphasized that no citizen should face state retaliation due to political differences. Additionally, PTI condemned recent police raids and vandalism at the residences of Omar Ayub, Sher Ali Arbab, and Shah Ahad, calling the targeting of political opponents' homes unacceptable.
Concluding its session, the political committee expressed grave concern over surging terrorism across the country, terming it a critical threat that demands a unified and robust national response.
