Sindh Assembly Will Not Accept Any Move To Create New Provinces: Murad

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday categorically opposed proposals for the creation of new provinces, stating that the provincial assembly has repeatedly rejected such moves and its resolutions cannot be ignored. Speaking to the media, Shah said the assembly's elected members represent the people of the province and have expressed their opposition on several occasions through resolutions.

He noted that the Constitution clearly prescribes a procedure for creating new provinces, including the approval of relevant provincial assemblies and a constitutional amendment requiring a two-thirds majority. While no one can be prevented from expressing an opinion, any proposal must comply with constitutional requirements, he added, reiterating that the house would reject any division of the province.

Expressing concern over the condition of roads excavated for development and utility projects, Shah directed the Local Government Commission to review the utilisation of funds collected for road cutting and restoration. He stressed that funds collected for specific excavations must be spent on restoring those same roads rather than being diverted by town administrations.

On the security situation, the chief minister said the federal and provincial governments must work together to combat terrorism, warning of existing threats along both the eastern and western borders. He emphasized the need for a unified national strategy and institutional coordination, adding that a lack of cooperation could necessitate alternative constitutional options.

Shah clarified that while Governor's Rule is not a preferred measure in a democratic system, the Constitution provides for it, though differences between the Centre and provinces are best resolved through political dialogue and national unity. He also announced that a sealed judicial commission report would be presented and opened during the cabinet meeting on Tuesday (today) for a decision on its implementation.

The provincial government remains committed to transparency and the rule of law in all administrative matters. The Chief Minister further highlighted that the provincial administration is focused on completing ongoing development schemes to provide relief to the citizens of Sindh.

He urged the relevant departments to ensure quality control in all infrastructure projects. Concluding his remarks, Murad Ali Shah reiterated that the provincial government would continue to protect the rights of the people of Sindh as mandated by the Constitution.

He called upon all political stakeholders to prioritize national interests over political differences.
