The Sindh government will launch an internship programme for degree holders in November through its Iwork4Sindh platform to help young people gain practical experience and improve their employment prospects, Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Thursday.
In a statement, he said the initiative was part of the provincial government's efforts to expand employment opportunities for young people and enhance their professional capabilities by providing them with platforms to utilise their skills and access better career prospects. He said the next phase of in-person short courses for skilled individuals would also be launched through the Iwork4Sindh platform in collaboration with companies.
The courses would focus on equipping young people with skills aligned with industry requirements and the evolving needs of the job market. Emphasising the importance of practical training alongside formal education, Memon said traditional education alone was no longer sufficient to meet the demands of the modern workplace.
Practical skills and professional training were essential to prepare young people for employment, he added. Sharing details of the platform's performance, the minister said Iwork4Sindh had recorded more than 5.3 million visits, with 137,770 registered candidates and 726 registered companies.
He added that the platform currently offered 26,677 active job opportunities, while the number of applications submitted had reached 480,000. Memon further said that 4,800 candidates had completed various training courses over the past three months, while around 6,000 others were currently undergoing training in different programmes.
Career counselling services were also being provided through the platform to help young people identify suitable career paths and make informed decisions about their professional futures. Between 18 and 20 counselling sessions were being conducted every week, he added.
