FAISALABAD: Tajikistan's Ambassador Sharifzoda Yousuf Toir has called for stronger economic engagement between Pakistan and his country, pointing to significant opportunities to diversify bilateral trade, promote investment and deepen business-to-business cooperation. Speaking at the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) on Monday, the Tajik envoy said both countries were committed to strengthening the economic dimension of their relationship and translating their longstanding fraternal ties into practical benefits for businesses.
"We could build on existing relations by identifying new areas of cooperation, expanding the range of goods traded and strengthening links between our private sectors," he said. Bilateral trade stood at $43 million in 2025, he said, adding both governments aim to increase it to $200 million over the next three years.
"Achieving this target will require sustained engagement, stronger commercial ties and closer coordination among businesses and relevant institutions in both countries," Ambassador Toir said. PTEA Chairman Rehan Naseem Bharara said that despite the considerable potential for trade between Pakistan and Tajikistan, bilateral trade remains limited, standing at around $43 million.
He said this figure was modest compared with the opportunities available and highlighted the need for closer economic engagement to unlock the two countries' full trading potential. He added that enhanced connectivity, direct banking channels, and regular flights would further facilitate the business community in exploring new markets.
The exchange of trade delegations and participation in international exhibitions held in both countries can also play a pivotal role in achieving the mutually agreed economic targets. Business leaders from Faisalabad expressed keen interest in exploring Central Asian markets, noting that Tajikistan serves as a gateway to the wider region for Pakistani products.
