Karachi Parts To Face Gas Suspension This Weekend: SSGC

Parts of Karachi will experience a gas supply outage during a scheduled 11-hour shutdown beginning tonight for maintenance work on a 24-inch Qatar mainline in the Shershah area, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced on Saturday. The utility said the shutdown is scheduled from 10pm on Saturday to 9am on Sunday.

The maintenance work is part of the company's ongoing efforts to upgrade the aging infrastructure and ensure a more stable supply network for the metropolis. Technical teams have been deployed to complete the task within the stipulated timeframe to minimize the impact on the industrial and domestic sectors.

Although the shutdown has been scheduled during the period when the domestic gas supply remains suspended, any extension beyond the designated hours may lead to complaints of low gas pressure in some areas, the SSGC said. The company has advised residents to manage their consumption accordingly during this period.

The areas that may experience low gas pressure are: Baldia Town's Ittehad Town, Saeedabad, Naval Colony, Musharraf Colony, and Mawach Goth. Additionally, residents in Orangi Town's Gulshan-e-Bahar Colony, Gulshan-e-Zia Colony, Sector 16, Ghaziabad, Altaf Nagar, Mehran City, and Ramzan Goth should prepare for potential fluctuations.

The SITE Industrial Area is also expected to face pressure issues. The SSGC has emphasized that the maintenance is critical for the long-term reliability of the gas distribution system in these densely populated zones.

The utility provider has requested the cooperation of the public during this essential maintenance window. They have also established a monitoring cell to address emergency complaints that may arise during the shutdown period.

SSGC apologized to consumers for the inconvenience they might experience during the maintenance work. The company remains committed to improving service delivery across the province despite the challenges posed by aging pipelines.

Residents are encouraged to keep their gas appliances turned off during the shutdown hours to prevent any safety hazards once the supply is restored. The company will provide updates if there are any changes to the restoration schedule.

For further assistance, consumers can contact the SSGC customer support centers or utilize the official mobile application for real-time updates regarding their specific locality. The company reiterated that these measures are necessary to prevent major technical failures that could lead to prolonged outages in the future.
