Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday said the party was not taking to the streets on September 27 to break open the gates of Adiala Jail or to "capture" Islamabad, but rather to peacefully seek justice. Speaking to the media, Gohar noted that it had been 320 days since "we have had any meeting with the jailed founder of PTI", who has been handed down multiple sentences across some 300 cases while remaining behind bars for three years. "Now this must end," he asserted.
The PTI chairman underlined that to restore an atmosphere of trust, the party founder should be shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. "We have never hindered Pakistan's important diplomatic achievements," he maintained. "Protest is our compulsion, but if there is a dialogue, we are ready. The founder has never refused to talk either," he contended, while hailing the Islamabad High Court's directives regarding the PTI founder and urging their immediate implementation.
"You yourselves say that the system needs a reset; if you are not ready for it, the public will do it themselves," Gohar warned, adding that improvement lies in easing political tension. He maintained that the entire opposition stands with the PTI over the treatment of its founder and announced that all political parties would be invited to join the upcoming demonstration.
The PTI chairman affirmed that the party would collaborate with other political forces on public issues both inside and outside parliament. Clarifying the party's stance on Azad Kashmir, he said public grievances must be addressed through discourse, though the PTI does not support any anti-state narrative. Gohar disclosed that no overtures had been made by the government regarding talks thus far, concluding, "We believe that political dialogue is essential. We have been driven to this course of action because our voice is simply not being heard."
