Opposition Leadership Convenes Emergency Meeting Over KP Crisis

The top opposition leadership on Wednesday held a detailed discussion on the future line of action following the imposition of emergency and governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The leadership of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP)) and other allied parties met to deliberate on the situation.

Attendees included the Leaders of the Opposition in the Senate and the National Assembly, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, former Balochistan Chief Minister and Balochistan National Party (BNP) head Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.

Also present were Sunni Ittehad Council acting chairman Sahibzada Hasan Raza, Sindh United Party head Syed Zain Shah, Pakistan Rights Movement head and former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, and former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, who serves as Vice Chairman of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP)).

Other participants included Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP)) economic spokesperson Muhammad Zubair, BNP Senior Vice President Sajid Khan Tareen, Haqooq-e-Khalq Party Secretary General Ammar Ali Jan, Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP)) spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain, and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, a member of PTI founder Imran Khan's legal team.

The meeting focused on the imposition of governor's rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the resulting political fallout, and the country's overall political climate. The opposition leaders expressed deep concerns over the constitutional implications of the current crisis.

They argued that the move to impose emergency measures undermines democratic norms and provincial autonomy. During the session, the participants reviewed various legal and political options to challenge the government's decision.

They emphasized the need for a unified front to protect the constitution and ensure the rule of law across the country. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan highlighted that the PTI would continue to resist what he termed as unconstitutional measures.

He stated that the party is consulting with its legal experts to prepare a comprehensive strategy. Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal stressed that the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a reflection of the broader governance crisis in Pakistan.

He called for immediate dialogue to resolve the political deadlock. The meeting concluded with a consensus to hold further consultations and mobilize public support against the current policies of the federal government.

The opposition leadership plans to announce a formal protest schedule in the coming days.
