Naqvi Tells Guterres 25 Terror Outfits Operating In Afghanistan

Pakistan's internal security leadership on Thursday informed visiting UN Secretary-General António Guterres that 25 terrorist outfits were currently operating in Afghanistan, posing a grave threat to both regional and global peace. Global and regional security dynamics alongside Pakistan's ongoing contributions to international peacekeeping operations came under discussion during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry with the UN secretary-general here.

Naqvi highlighted Pakistan's active engagement in global counterterrorism efforts and raised concerns over threats to regional stability by Afghan-based terror outfits. He urged the international community to adopt a collective approach to neutralise these security risks.

Reaffirming the nation's commitment to global security frameworks, the interior minister emphasised Pakistan's active participation in UN operations, noting that both military personnel and police officers remain deployed in UN policing and peacekeeping missions worldwide. He paid tribute to the 181 Pakistani peacekeepers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving under the UN flag.

In response, Guterres commended Pakistan for its longstanding, distinguished record in UN peacekeeping operations, expressing deep appreciation for the dedication and service of Pakistani personnel in advancing global stability. Naqvi thanked the United Nations chief for the organisation's continued partnership and its crucial support to Pakistan during major natural disasters.
