KARAK: A station house officer (SHO) and his guard were martyred while a passerby was injured when armed men opened fire on a police patrol in the New Karappa area of Karak on Thursday. District Police Officer (DPO) Karak Imran Khan said the police team was on routine patrol near the boundary between Kohat and Karak districts when the ambush took place.

Station House Officer (SHO) Daud Khan of Banda Daud Shah Police Station and his guard Farhad embraced martyrdom on the spot. Following the incident, the DPO along with a heavy police contingent reached the scene, cordoning off the area and launching a search operation to trace the attackers.

The funeral prayers for the martyred officials were offered at Police Lines Karak with full state honours. Commissioner Kohat Division Mutasim Billah, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Irfan Tariq, DPO Imran Khan, Deputy Commissioner Asad Sarwar and other senior civil and police officials attended the funeral.

Speaking on the occasion, RPO Kohat Irfan Tariq vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice and those involved in the attack would be arrested soon.
