Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday held an important meeting with the Director General of International Labor Organization (ILO), Gilbert F. Houngbo, focusing on issues related to the welfare of workers and industrial labourers in the region.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab government, the main topic of discussion was the implementation and improvement of welfare schemes for workers, including the distribution of ration cards and the provision of housing facilities for workers. There was also a discussion on labour laws and their effective implementation, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve the living and working conditions of workers in Punjab.
Both acknowledged the progress made in supporting workers. The ILO Director General praised the efforts made by the government, particularly regarding the issuance of ration cards and the construction of apartments for workers.
These measures aim to alleviate the difficulties faced by workers, ensuring their access to basic resources and housing. This meeting highlighted a joint effort between the local government and international organisations to strengthen labour welfare and establish sustainable development practices.
This dialogue is expected to pave the way for further progress in improving workers' rights and living standards in the region.
